DiskQuota is free to use, modify, and share. Download the notarized app or build it from source, grant Full Disk Access, and scan your home folder or the entire disk to see exactly where your space goes. No account, no tracking, no uploads. DiskQuota only reads file sizes on your Mac.
DiskQuota scans your home folder, the entire disk, or any folder you choose, and
measures every item by the space it actually occupies on disk. It shows how your startup disk is used,
which folders and files are the largest, and which well-known locations can be cleaned up: Xcode build
data, simulators, package caches, Docker disks, downloaded ML models, and project build products such as
node_modules and .venv. Everything you remove goes to the Trash after a
confirmation, and Time Machine local snapshots that keep deleted files on disk can be cleared from the
same window.

Highlights
Accurate scanning
- Measures the blocks actually allocated on disk, so sparse files, APFS-compressed files, and iCloud files that are not downloaded are counted correctly
- Counts hard-linked files once and never wanders into other volumes
- Scan your home folder, the entire disk, or any folder, and stop at any time with partial results
- Print a text report from the command line with
--scan
See where space goes
- Startup disk usage split into used, purgeable, and actually free space
- A folder tree sorted by size, with share of the parent folder and full-path tooltips
- The 300 largest files, sortable by name, size, kind, location, or date
- A breakdown by file kind: video, disk images, ML models, archives, and more
Safe cleanup
- A catalog of known space hogs: Xcode DerivedData, DeviceSupport, simulators, package caches, Docker, Ollama, Hugging Face, iOS backups, and more
- Every candidate is marked Safe, Review, or Info, grouped in collapsible categories
- Finds project build products such as
node_modules,.build,target, and.venv - Moves items to the Trash after confirmation, never deletes them permanently, and suggests the right command for tools that manage their own data
Snapshots and permissions
- Lists Time Machine local snapshots and deletes selected ones or all of them
- Explains why free space does not grow right after deleting files
- Guides you through Full Disk Access on the first launch and shows its status at all times
- Localized in English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese
Getting started
- Download the latest
DiskQuota-<version>.dmgfrom GitHub Releases. - Open the DMG and drag DiskQuota onto the Applications folder.

- Follow the Full Disk Access guide, relaunch DiskQuota, and start a scan.
Prefer to build it yourself? Clone
the repository and run make run,
or open DiskQuota.xcodeproj in Xcode 16 or later. See
Installing DiskQuota in the User Guide for details.
